Sense and Sensibility (1811) is the first novel to be published by Jane Austen (1775-1817), a British novelist and one of the most widely - read and best-loved writers in British literature. Adapted for movie and television, the novel describes the ways in which women's lives were shaped by the claustrophic society. The title describes how Elinor and Marianne find a balance between sense in life and love.
