The Professor was the first novel by Charlotte Bronte (1816 - 1855), a British writer, the eldest out of the three famous Bronte sisters. Based on Charlotte Bronte' sexperiences in Brussels as a student, the book is the story of a young man, William Crimsworth. Charlotte Bronte completed The Professor before Jane Eyre but it was rejected by publishers; it was published posthumously in 1857.
